Daily Dozen – Smirking Men

How do you define a smirk? I’m going with slightly crooked close-mouthed smiles. I had a bunch of them with varying degrees of crookedness. Hope you dig them.

Daily Dozen – Men in Bars

One of the easiest places to photograph strangers is in bars. There are a few reasons for this: first, people may have had a couple of drinks and are more relaxed; second, people are usually there with friends which makes them more comfortable and third, it’s usually a familiar place. When I started I shot almost exclusively in bars but eventually wanted to move beyond shooting in the dark. I still do it and always enjoy myself but am happy to have broadened things a bit. Today’s set features men in bars. Tomorrow, unless something else pops into my head, I will do women.

Daily Dozen – Men with round heads/faces

For whatever reason, when I sat down this morning to put together the Daily Dozen, men with round head/faces popped into my head. I hadn’t even opened my laptop or given it any thought. Sometimes it happens. I’ve done two sets based on round – men with round chins and people wearing round glasses. One of the tricky parts in doing round heads/faces is not simply using every bald face I have. While it’s true bald heads do make ones head/face look rounder it isn’t the only thing that can convey that impression. Sometimes it is the cheeks and chin together, sometimes the hairline. Sure, today’s set has plenty of bald fellows but it has plenty of other kinds of faces too. Hope you enjoy them all.

Daily Dozen – Guys with Receding Hairlines

Yesterday I realized that my hairline is receding. It’s happening slowly I think. So slowly that I usually don’t even notice it but when I do it can’t be denied. I told Wendy that when it gets too obvious I’m shaving my noggin – but it’s not *too* bad yet . . .

Another thing I realized is that I don’t know how to spell receding. For some reason I was convinced that it had a double e. Go figure.

The last thing I realized while putting this set together is that it’s a fine line between a big forehead and a receding hairline. I looked at a bunch of faces and sometimes couldn’t be sure. What I could be sure of though is that if I said a guy had a receding hairline and he didn’t think so he’d be pissed so I erred on the side of caution.

Hope you enjoy these faces from my 1000faces project!
