Face of the Day – 8.29

Today’s face is Tony Tester.

Face - man with two-tone face

It’s kind of a continuation of yesterday’s kinky hair theme I guess. Tony, his brother Chuck and this guy Phil are Tester, a really fun, loud and raucous band. I first saw them at a bar in Framingham and see them out there from time to time. Since I’m pretty pressed for time today I don’t have much to say.

I will say that what I like about this picture is the half-face thing going on and the colors.

Daily Dozen – Long and Dark May it Wave

This is the set I’d planned to do last Friday – women with long dark wavy hair. It’s hard to make a distinction between wavy and curly so I apologize if it’s a mixed bag but I try.

Daily Dozen – Enjoy Bill Joy!

Over the years – by a path I can’t explain – I’ve had the opportunity to become involved with MIT. It’s one of my favorite places for a whole lot of reasons. One aspect of my involvement is as a photographer for various events. The Communications Forum, the Futures of Entertainment, Media in Transition, Unbound and emTech are some of them and they’ve all be awesome. Bill Joy, one of the co-founders of Sun Microsystems and now a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, was one of the speakers at emTech 11. He’s heavily into energy now and had a great on-stage chat with Jason Pontin of the Technology Review. Here are some of my photos from that session. enJoy them. hahahahahahaha!

Daily Dozen – Women with their hair to one side

Today I was looking at photos and the first one my eyes fell upon was of a woman with her hair pulled to one side. That became today’s theme. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped to find a dozen photos to fill the theme. With some hard work I was able to come up with 12 faces and I hope you’ll enjoy them.

Daily Dozen – Women with Short Dark Hair in Cambridge

It’s been six months since I started doing these Daily Dozen sets consistently. Sure, I’ve missed a day or two here or there but for the most part, every day between Monday and Friday has seen some new categorization of people. One thing I’ve learned is that what seemed specific in the past can become really general in retrospect. The set of women with short hair is a good example. It seemed pretty focused at the time but what counts as short? Why not look at different color hair in different styles? What about time of day? Time of year? Etc.

Live and learn I suppose.

Today’s set features 12 women with short dark hair. I haven’t looked at the month or time these photos were taken but I have limited them to Cambridge. It’s pretty narrow, which gives me much more flexibility over time. I hope you’ll enjoy the set.

Daily Dozen – Chest Hair

Hopefully it goes without saying that this set features men. It’s funny all the different ways chest hair can make itself known. Obviously if a fellow is shirtless you’re likely going to see some hair. Likewise if they’re wearing an open shirt. On one occasion I was doing a photo shoot and someone was all buttoned up but had neglected to wear an undershirt and tufts of hair were poking out from between his buttons. The photos below feature chest hair in a wide variety of situations. Enjoy.

Daily Dozen – Women with Their Hair in Motion

There’s something very cool about a picture that captures dynamic motion. (I suppose all motion is dynamic, but what I mean is that shows it in a way that’s easy to appreciate. Hair is an obvious place to look for motion and I was thinking about it this morning and wondering how many shots I have of women whose hair is moving in some way. It turns out there were quite a few. There were several of dancers for Beats Antique, a few of people running, some of people in the wind and a couple of people singing. I’m not going to say that the motion in every one of these cases is dramatic but it’s there if you look.

Daily Dozen – Brush Back!

Recently I noticed my hairline was starting to recede. Not in the middle but at my temples. Long ago I’d decided that if I were to go bald I’d shave my head. Given how little hair was involved (most people wouldn’t realize anything was even going on) that seemed a little draconian. When I asked my barber for some ideas he suggested I could brush it back. That didn’t seem to make much sense and when I went home and tried it my wife just laughed. It wasn’t a very good look for me. Which isn’t to say it isn’t a good look. A lot of men brush their hair back. Maybe some do it to deal with receding hairlines; but as you’ll see from the photos below, many do it just to look awesome.

Daily Dozen – Men with buzz cuts

We’re on the verge of May here in New England. Soon the warm weather months will be upon us. Though they’re not with us long, many men will begin considering their summer hairstyles soon. To help with that process, I’ve put together a set of men with buzz cuts (it’s what I often sport during the hot and humid months). Now in putting this set together I did not include bald men or men who are almost bald and shave their heads. No, this is a set of guys who went into their barber and told them to put a number one guard on the clipper. Hope you enjoy. The summer will be here soon!
