Daily Dozen – A Few Favorite Female Faces #1

Most days I try to be totally objective with the Daily Dozen: women wearing red or men outdoors in the daylight or people singing. Today I had another totally objective set in mind. It was going to feature men wearing really worn hats. I couldn’t find 12 though so had to shelve the idea. While I was looking I decided to throw objectivity to the wind and select photographs to 12 women that I liked. I don’t know any of the women in these pictures, I decided that if they were of people I knew it might influence how I felt about them. I also decided to limit my pool to the first 1000faces. Frankly, the early photographs in the project aren’t that good in some respects. I love them but I was just getting started.

One of the things that always amazes me about this project is how often I misjudge what people will like. What I mean is this: Often I’ll take and process a photo and think to myself, “wow, this one is great, people are going to love it” but then when I post it will get very few views. Other times I’ll take a photo and not really give it much thought and it will turn out to be super popular. Today, you can see some of the photos that I like. I don’t know what I like about any of these pictures but I do. Maybe you will too.

Daily Dozen – Women after midnight

It’s safe to say I’m something of a night owl. I don’t know what it is but I’m always ready for fun long after the sun goes down. Why just today I found myself getting in in the wee hours so when it was time to think about today’s Daily Dozen late night popped into my head. I started tagging men and women that’s I photographed after midnight (to the best of my recollection – and using Flickr’s calendar view). Hope you enjoy them – and that you try to stay up and out late too some times. Sorry about missing yesterday’s set, I was traveling and the day got away from me.

Daily Dozen – Women with Cleft Chins

I did a set of men with cleft chins and thought I’d revisit the theme with women today. Here’s something I noticed: fewer women seem to have cleft chins than men and for the most part their’s are more subtle than men’s. You’ll have to judge for yourselves.

Daily Dozen – Women in New York at Night

I had big plans for today’s Daily Dozen. It was going to be Hollywood focused and I was sure it would be a big hit. It’s not like I’m a paparazzi or something with shots of stars and celebrities but going through my photos I have directors, composers and reporters who cover Hollywood. I know that doesn’t really get people’s blood flowing though now does it. I also realized that many of those photographs were never tagged – or even uploaded to Flickr – and that they go back some five years. Too hard a task for a busy person like me!

So instead I’ve taken the easy route. Thursday’s set of men on the street of New York at night + Friday’s set of women in Kendall Square = today’s collection of women on the streets of New York at night. I *do* have some other sets in mind for this week, one or two that I’m really looking forward to. As always though, if you have an idea for a set let me know, I’m all ears . . .

Fresh Faces 24

Sometimes I do a terrible job of remembering to post these face collections. I don’t know why because I really like them – but I haven’t done it in months and that’s not good. It isn’t good for a couple of reasons. First it means I’ve deprived people of plenty of fine faces. Second it means I have a ton of photos to deal with and that’s kind of a pain. This set is interesting to be because they span the loss of my old Digital Rebel and my starting to use my new T2i. I’ve had the new camera for a few months now and I’m still getting used to it. At some point things will stabilize but for the moment the faces are in flux. Having lost my flash as well I’ve been taking most of them with natural light. That’s been cool but it has drawbacks as well.

I’ll stop going on. Here are the faces:

Well that’s all of them (not all of them – you can see ALL of them on Flickr). I need to write on the blackboard “I won’t wait four months to post my next Fresh Faces set” a thousand times or something . . .

Let me know what you think.
