This was a surprisingly hard set to put together. It seems that many women don’t wear striped clothing. I looked hard though and was able to find a number to choose from. A few might be a stretch but what can you do?
Almost a year ago I did a set of women with dimples and decided to revisit the theme today but featuring men. As with freckles, there seem to be a lot more women with dimples than men. I suppose it has to do with the structure of people’s faces. It took some time for me to round up twelve images but ultimately I was successful! I hope you’ll enjoy them.
I started photographing people on and off in early 2008. It didn’t start in earnest until July 20. It was four years ago today that I really get the 1000faces project rolling. I was at PodCamp in Boston and feeling kind of bored. The idea popped into my head to try to photograph everyone at the event and I went to work. I didn’t get everyone over the course of those two days but I got a lot of people. When I saw all the faces together I was struck by how cool everyone looked together. That really cemented the idea to amass photos of faces. When I look at these early photos they’re not very good. Over time I’ve gotten better at it and have refined the way I approach people and process the images. I’ve also changed gear over the years as well. Still though, it’s nice to see where things started. Enjoy.
Yesterday I did women at MIT and said I’d do men at some point and today’s the day. I’m doing it now because I know if I don’t I’ll forget. Hopefully this isn’t too much MIT for everyone!
Earlier today I was looking for writing by Martin LaMonica, a reporter I know. He mentioned that he was blogging for the MIT Technology Review and I found a piece he’d done on an event I photographed. It included a photo (not one of mine) of one of the speakers and that made me decide to do a set of women at MIT. Later this week I’ll do men.
Today I got into a car accident. Don’t worry, I’m fine; but my car (which looks OK) is going to need some work. The crash meant that I ran really late today and didn’t have a chance to do the Daily Dozen first thing this morning. Now that I’m sitting down to do it, people and cars seemed to be a natural set. Here are a few photos of people in and around vehicles – and one photo of a car with a face. Enjoy!
I can’t believe I haven’t done this set before because I have millions of pictures of women in hats. Women have a much wider array of hat styles than men do and I’ve tried to show some of those in this set. I don’t have much more to say except that I hope you’ll enjoy the photos. You might notice there are 13, it’s the baker’s dozen bonus!
Last week I was on vacation. Apparently I took it pretty seriously since not only did I not work but I also took a break from posting Daily Dozen sets. Sure, I posted a couple but by the middle of the week I decided to take it easy. It wasn’t a hard decision. Vacation is over now though and the Daily Dozens are back. Today’s set features women with dangling earrings. There were a lot of photos to look through to put this one together – and they had to be looked at pretty closely to determine just what type of earrings were being worn. Within the dangling category (third in popularity after studs and hoops) there are a number of variations: giant contraptions that hang along the neck, small beads, shapes, etc. I tried to grab a couple of examples of each. Hope you enjoy them!
I was out today and ran really late in terms of putting today’s set together. A lot of people offered to help come up with the theme for the day but almost everything they suggested was something I’ve done in the past. It’s tough. I decided to look at men with fun faces and to limit myself to the more recent set of 1000faces. I hope you’ll enjoy these 12 men who look like they’re having fun.
