Today’s set is a silly set. A set that makes no sense. While looking and thinking about the theme this is what struck me. Some are old, some are new (but not too new). Some time I should do a hat census to see how many of each hat style I have. I suspect the baseball cap is number one, followed by the knit, then the flat cap. I’ll need to look into it. For now though, here are men wearing glasses and hats of all sorts.
Sometimes I think it would be fun to try and find all the photos taken on a particular day over the years. Finding a simple way to do that was the challenge. But of course nothing is really a challenge now is it? It’s usually just a matter of finding the right tool, or even of fully exploring the tools you have. That’s what I tried this morning and found that Flickr has a nice archive view that allows one to see when they’ve taken or uploaded photographs. When I looked in May of 2011 I did have any from 5/30. I went back to and when I hit 2009 I hit pay dirt. It was a Saturday and it was my 25th high school reunion. It had started on the evening of the 29th and carried on until the morning of the 31st. The event was at my school (New Hampton) and the weekend’s weather was perfect. Even though it was the 25th, I think there were only six or seven people from my year there. (There were more people than that though – any class was welcome.) It was pretty fun.
In any case, looking back using the archive view I was able to find a batch of photos from today’s date in the past and here they are.
When I did that sculpted set the other day I looked at all my sets to see what other facial hair sets I might have done in the past. I assumed I’d done goatees because it’s the most common facial hair out there. It turns out it’s the ONLY facial hair that I haven’t included in a Daily Dozen. So strange. Today’s set remedies the situation. It’s only 12 photographs but trust me, I could probably do 120 without blinking an eye. In today’s set I’ve tried to capture the classic goatee (which technically doesn’t include a mustache) as well as the far more common goatee and mustache combo. If there are other really obvious sets I’ve missed let me know!
Most of the women in this set are bartenders but there are a couple who are waitresses at bars. My wife and I go to Legal Seafood pretty regularly and one of the bartenders is a big reason why. It’s funny but there’s no picture of her in this set. Maybe we’ll stop by tonight and I’ll see if I can’t get one. If I do many I’ll add it to this set, but in the meantime, enjoy!
Maybe that’s not the right term for this set? I’ve done big beards, scruffy beards, mustaches and sideburns but today I was looking at a face with a carefully quaffed beardish thing going on. This set is about guys who treat their faces as hirsute canvases, shaving and shaping their hair into a shape and pattern that’s just right. I’ve tried not to include too many men that have only one facial hair element (a nifty mustache for example) but instead wanted at least a couple of things going on. There are – as always – exceptions. Enjoy!
Every day is somebody’s birthday. If you wish everyone you meet a happy birthday you stand a good chance of being right at least some percentage of the time. I’ve been surprised by how many people I’ve photographed on their birthdays without realizing it. That’s what this set is all about – coincidental birthday photos. Since it’s Wednesday the set is a mix of men and women and I sure hope you’ll enjoy them. Sorry for being lame and not posting the past few days. Things happen.
It’s been three days without a new Daily Dozen. Boo on me. I’m traveling (on business) and haven’t had time to put together a fresh set. I have managed to take some pictures though! More to come but not today. 😦
