How many people don’t you know?

Every time I travel – as I am landing and looking out over all the roofs I’m passing over – I’m struck by the thought that I hardly know anyone. I mean I know a lot of people, but compared to the number of people I don’t know – well, I hardly know anyone at all.

Even here in Boston – where I live and work and where I have been connected most of my life – I am constantly finding people I don’t know. Unless I am traveling within my circles, most of the people I see and meet are strangers. Somehow that seems odd to me.
