Daily Dozen – Full Female Faces

Today’s set features women with their hair pulled back, up or aside to expose their entire face. Sometimes people think this makes their foreheads look really big. I don’t think that’s the case; and I don’t think the women in this set do either (I mean if they did why would they pull their hair back in the first place?). I have a LOT of photos of women with his hairstyle so I’ve limited my pool to the second 1000faces set. As much as I like the way hair can frame the face, I also like these photos really show the shape of the entire face.

Daily Dozen – Blue-Eyed Boston Boys

I love maudlin music. The sadder and more tragic the song the more I like it. There are few songs as sad as Blue-Eyed Boston Boy. It tells the story of two soldiers during the Civil War about to head into battle. The song’s namesake asks a comrade to be sure to send word to his mother and love should anything happen to him. Needless to say things go wrong. That’s a Spotify link up there so you can listen to the song if you’d like. It’s pretty sad. I’ve always thought it was a nice name though and the name was the inspiration for today’s set. Hopefully none of these blue-eyed Boston boys will suffer the fate of the song’s hero . . .

While not everyone it the set is necessarily a boy per se, they all have blue eyes and I’m pretty sure all of their pictures were taken in Boston proper.

Daily Dozen – Widow’s Peak My Interest

Hairlines are pretty interesting. They come in so many styles. The widow’s peak is a pretty cool example. When I was growing up Eddie Munster had the quintessential peak, as did Bela Lugosi. None of the people I’ve photographed here have a widow’s peak that is as dramatic as these two examples, but they’re still pretty cool. Let me know what you think.

Daily Dozen – Closed-Mouth Men

I try to be fair and balanced, I really do, so today I’ve decided to repeat yesterday’s set but with men instead of women. I also decided to draw the photos from the second 1000faces instead of the first. Looking through my photos I see that men tend to smile more with their mouths closed than women. Maybe they’re shyer? I’m not going to reason why though, I’ll just appreciate how interesting people look. I hope you will too.

From Friday’s big smiles we make a big change. The focus today are women whose smiles are more subtle, more subdued. I’m convinced these women are just as happy as the big smilers, they just show it in a different way. To make my life easier I’ve limited my pool to the first 1000faces. Hope you enjoy!

There are so many different kinds of smile – smirks, subtle, grins – today I was looking at smiles and decided to do a set of people who are so happy they smile with their mouths open. I think it’s a good sign.

Daily Dozen – The Eye(brows) Have It

I know I’m pretty inconsistent with this series, but yesterday’s absence was now simply my being lazy. Like plenty of people, I’m concerned with SOPA and decided not to post any of my usual content. It’s back to business as usual today though.

A few days ago someone suggested I do a set of people with raised eyebrows. It seemed like a good idea so I went off looking for a dozen examples in my photos. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a dozen. What I did find though were plenty of examples of faces where the eyebrows played more than a bit part. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a guy fully into middle age that doesn’t think much about his own eyebrows, but I don’t think much about other people’s eyebrows either. That’s one of the things I really enjoy about 1000faces and the Daily Dozen. They both give me an opportunity to find new ways to appreciate just how wonderful we all are. I think people look amazing. Sometimes that amazingness is right there and easy to see and understand. Other times it’s more subtle. Either way, I love it and hope you do too.

Daily Dozen – Women with Super Cheeks

To my mind, when people smile it’s right and proper for their cheeks to rise and get round. How could that not happen? For some reason, a lot of people feel uncomfortable with round and wonderful cheeks. I think it’s silly. To me they’re just great. Here are faces of a dozen women with really super cheeks.

Daily Dozen – Silly Hat Day

I don’t know, I’m just in the mood for some silly hats. Not all of these hats are inherently silly, but often – and it is certainly true in this case – context matters.

Go Pats!

His hat is very small.

My dad in a very fancy number.

This is my AC Milan hat. It’s only silly because it’s on someone else’s head.

The hat isn’t silly but the face under it sure is.

This whole package is silly.

Maybe if he turned it over this hat wouldn’t be as silly.

You’d be surprised by how many people you see sporting this look.

In 1778 this hat isn’t so silly. In 2008 it was.

Silly? Frankly I think not.

My kid is cool.

This is a hotdog hat. Silly.

OK, so maybe today’s set from my 1000faces project isn’t the most exciting; but sometimes I just can’t think of anything, you know? I part my hair on the left and that was as good a reason as any for coming up with today’s theme. Feel free to help me out here if you have any sets you’d like to see.
